First, you might be asking, “What is laser therapy?”
What is laser therapy?
Laser therapy is the use of focused light (a laser) at very specific wavelengths. It is a non-invasive procedure whereby light energy penetrates the superficial layers of your skin to interact with the injured or inflamed deep tissues of your body. The cascade of effects from this interaction is increased cellular metabolism, decreased pain, reduction in muscle spasms, improved circulation and reduced inflammation. In summary, you get to feel better, faster.
What is laser therapy used for?
In Canada, laser therapy is most often prescribed for common “itis” conditions - which are any acute or chronic conditions involving inflammation. Such conditions may include:
- Arthritis
- Bursitis
- Disc Bulging and Herniation
- Elbow and Joint Pain
- Epicondylitis
- Lower Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Neuropathy
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Sciatica
- Shoulder Pain
- Soft Tissue Damage
- Sports injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Tendonitis & Tendonosis
- TMJ
- Upper Back Pain
Laser therapy for common “itis” conditions
Did you know that laser therapy can give you relief from conditions you thought you had to just live with? Some of the most common include:
Arthritis: Laser therapy is used for arthritic conditions as a way to manage pain and inflammation. Class IV lasers are powerful enough to deliver larger doses, across larger areas in shorter treatment times, than the traditional cold lasers (Low Level Light Therapy)
Epicondylitis: Cortisone shots are one of the most common treatments used for this but they only provide temporary relief, directly at the injection site. Laser therapy is a more effective treatment with no side effects, provides longer-term relief, and can be used to treat satellite pain sites too.
Plantar Fasciitis: Usually treated by orthotics and/or medications. At Back2Health, we’ve seen patients integrate these modalities with laser therapy and have great success. Laser therapy helps reduce the pain and inflammation in your feet, calves, and hips related to plantar fasciitis.

Laser therapy for acute conditions
Have you ever had an injury that seemed to take forever to heal? If administered as soon as possible after an initial injury (assuming there are no other medical complications from the injury), laser therapy can shorten your healing time. When you can manage inflammation, you can accelerate your healing process.
Laser therapy for chronic conditions
If you’ve been living with chronic pain and inflammation as a daily discomfort for some time now, then laser therapy can actually give you some relief from your chronic pains. It promotes better circulation to damaged tissues and is a powerful treatment option when you want or need to avoid pharmaceutical medications.
Laser therapy for post-activity recovery
Remember the last time you went for a long run or overexerted yourself too much at the gym and were sore and achy the next day? This is known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). If you’re in professional sports, or even just want a good workout without the debilitating muscle pain post-exercise, then laser therapy after your physical activity can help minimize that soreness.
Experience laser therapy at Back2Health
At Back2Health Chiropractic and Laser Clinic we take a holistic approach to health that includes the use of hands-on manual therapies coupled with innovative technology. Dr Josh Webster, who administers laser therapy at Back2Health describes deep-tissue laser as a safe and effective modality for chronic pain conditions and is complementary to other methods of treatment. “I truly enjoy providing laser therapy and witnessing my patients experience substantial and significant pain relief,” said Dr Webster, “Some have been able to completely stop their pain medication.”
“I had a motorcycle accident 10 years ago which destroyed my ankle and left me almost unable to walk, with extreme swelling, pain, and recurring infection in the area. I had seen many specialists and no one could give me any relief or answers, aside from having a fusion surgery, which sounded archaic and horrible. I started with Laser therapy twice each week, and the difference is unbelievable. Swelling is gone, pain is about 10% of what it used to be, and no more infections. I cannot recommend these therapies enough.,”
