Osteopathy
Osteopathy was founded in 1874 by a physician named Andrew Taylor Still. After three of his children died from spinal meningitis, he formed the belief that prevention is better than cure. This led him to focus on the motion of circulatory fluid through out the body and how mechanical blockages from the musculoskeletal system, nerves and organs can create blockages resulting in illness and disease.
Although western medicine has significantly improved since Still's time, Osteopathic Practitioners today share the philosophy that maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit will help to prevent illness and disease.
One of the specific osteopathic techniques that is employed at Back2Health is CranioSacral Therapy, which was created by John Upledger, DO. Dr. Christian Guenette will use this light touch technique when working with infants, or when individuals with very painful conditions cannot tolerate a more rigorous soft-tissue or manipulative approach. Osteopathic techniques work hand-in-hand with chiropractic adjustments to bring the body back into a natural, balanced and pain-free state.
