Cary Rendek - Vancouver Acupuncturist in Kitsilano

Vancouver Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, Wellness Coach and founder of Root Wellness
I have a unique, holistic approach to achieving a healthy body and mind. I bring together my traditional Chinese medicine background – which includes, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicinals, other hands-on manipulation, and an Eastern philosophy to operating in the world – along with other tools to treat not just the symptoms, but the underlying imbalance in the body. Other tools include coaching, energy healing, lifestyle recommendations and even my background in the corporate world to help you gain insight and perspective into where you’re at, and get you on your way to where you want to be.
What To Expect
The initial consultation is an opportunity for you to tell your story, so we can both gain insight to where you’re at, where you want to be, and then find a way to get you there. Only when I am in your world can I really tap into the best course of action.
It’s more than just “fixing” whatever ailment you are currently experiencing. I make use of many tools in my toolkit, depending on the situation, to help transform lives. An important aspect of this is to really listen: listen to your story, what is being said and how, what is not being said, what is your body saying, and also to help you silence the chatter and really listen to yourself. This allows you to tap into your blocks and into your strengths to help you create a new balance. I use a combination of coaching, acupuncture, hands on energy work, guided meditation and imagery, my intuitive skills, and perhaps a small-yet-healthy dose of humour.
My Story
My first love was (and still is) math. Largely due to that and my unapologetic intelligence, I graduated with a degree in Mathematics & Computer Science. I started my first career in Information Technology way back in the 80’s. I spent 20 years in progressive roles on corporate ladder, taking time to raise a family and get an MBA. Somewhere along the way, I realized that things weren’t unfolding exactly the way I had envisioned. I often said, “I don’t do stress”. However what I was really doing was shoving it deep inside so nobody – including me - could see it. I was continually being pushed to be someone other than who I was. My fiercely empathetic, compassionate and curious being who wanted everyone to be acknowledged didn’t exactly fit the corporate model.
As this directional push-pull became more intense, I became more stressed and less fulfilled. My non-stressed-but-really-stressed body developed fibromyalgia, a chronic musculo-skeletal pain syndrome with symptoms of pain, fatigue and insomnia. Not being a fan of an uncertain future with prescription medications, I started looking elsewhere. I also decided it was time to take action on re-charting my course to align with my passion and purpose. And voila! Traditional Chinese medicine stole my heart and gave me back my life. I started practicing Acupuncture in 2005, and made the career switch to full-time in 2007.
Moving Forward
In 2010 my interest in community health and wellness, along with my desire to share my healing skills led me to Uganda. I volunteered in several village clinics, teaching nurses and other medical professionals acupuncture protocols to treat symptoms associated with the lifestyle and culture of African labourers. This was an adventure of a lifetime; being immersed in the daily village life and experiencing their challenges and joys brought a new perspective to the definition of how little one really needs to find fulfillment.
In 2011 I moved across the country and officially became a Vancouver Acupuncturist. My vision for you is to have a space where you feel safe and comfortable enough to embark on your path to wellness, whatever route that is. I bring compassion, commitment, empathy, authenticity, support, trust, enthusiasm and a bit of my own vulnerability into the room, so you get the best out of me in order to get the best out of you. It is my role in this lifetime to help people find their way to wellness through a path of awareness, acceptance and action. Together we get you to that “A-Ha” moment of, “Ok, now I get it, that’s what’s going on, and I can handle this”. And that’s just the beginning.
My Niche
Together we can work on anything in your realm of health and wellness. There are areas that I have an affinity for, either because I’ve lived in or around it, and/or there’s a real community/global need to heal, and/or I simply enjoy it. Areas such as:
