Why Is Alignment Important?

Vitruvian ManProper alignment in the body is crucial for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, alignment is important because it is the nature of the body's design -- our bodies are designed symmetrically from left to right and with natural curves from front to back.  When the body assumes a more natural alignment, it is able to perform its tasks with the greatest ease and power.  This is supported by the laws of physics and conservation of energy.

Secondly, alignment is particularly important when it comes to your back because the spine contains a very sensitive and critical organ called the spinal cord.  This structure is a collection of nerves and connective tissues that function collectively as the conduit for information traveling back and forth from the brain to the body (and vise-versa).  As the brain is the master-controller of bodily function, this communication network is critical for optimum organ function and coordination.  If the spine moves away from proper alignment, the tissue located within the spinal canal experiences physical stress and distorsion.  As a result, interference in the brain-body messaging system is more likely, and can contribute to ill-health.

So, mind your alignment, for as the twig is bent, so grows the tree.  Little imbalances in your body, if not attended to, can lead to bigger issues as time passes.  Have you ever felt an ache or a pain appearing out of the blue, without any obvious physical trauma?  This type of sudden pain, without apparent cause, may be a reflection of this phenomenon.  It is very common, and often a few visits to your chiropractor, osteopath or massage therapist is all that is needed to help restore a more natural balance, alleviating the stress that causes your discomfort.

When's the last time you had your alignment checked?  Don't wait until symptoms appear -- maintain a more natural alignment for better physical function, decreased stress and tension, and an overall sense of well-being.  You'll be glad you did.
